DO YOU WRITE FOR VICTORY OR SURVIVAL?

The reality of balancing passion and financial security

  1. Reality Check

In the peaceful morning, I passionately write about survival. The birds sang a symphony of melodies that filled the morning air. The glow of my laptop illuminated the room, a solitary beacon of the day.

This morning, words flowed through my veins like a volcano—hot, undeterred, an unquenchable passion that fueled my creative spirit. Yet, the harsh reality of bills and responsibilities pressed on me. Passion alone can’t put food on the table or pay the rent and school fees. Reality demanded more than a dream or passion.

Something caught me in a delicate dance between the zeal of ingenuity and the necessity of financial security. The dilemma glares at me like an ink stain on my soul. Publications beckoned, offering satiable exposure but little else and writing for free, while a tempting call to artistic purity clashed with the reality check of financial security.

2. I Sought A Compromise

In this tug-of-war between passion and reality, I sought a compromise. I delved into freelance writing, seeking publications that valued my craft enough to compensate for it. The journey encompassed resilience, rejection, and sporadic triumphs. Slowly but steadily, I built a bridge between my love for publishing and the practical demands of life.

As I honed my craft, I discovered the beauty of balance. A few projects were financially beneficial, while others awakened my artistic side. Each word written held a dual purpose: a stroke on the canvas of my dreams and a contribution to the stark reality of leading a life devoid of scarcity.

3. A win-win solution is within reach.

Ultimately, I found a way to skillfully traverse the tightrope between passion and survival. It is possible to have words become not only a means of expression but also a means of financial security. The confusion ebbed and gave way to harmony, where creativity and financial security coexisted.

As I typed in the pre-dawn hours, I knew I had found the perfect balance between my heart and the demands of reality.

4. Your learning journey

  1. It takes time to perfect your writing skills.
  2. Read around your niche, particularly write-ups by celebrated authors and bloggers.
  3. Write for free and learn on the job, but be on the lookout for opportunities.
  4. Take advantage of publications such as Medium.
